Hishy Hash and a Helluva Stew

This is adapted from a recipe Missy and her family introduced me to. When I think of the name, the image of her dad comes into my mind as a young cook in the Navy. OK, we wasn’t a cook but a launderer but anyway, I imagine Glenn serving up a batch of Hishy Hash to WW2 sailors who missed their Dutchie home cooking. This of course, in my daydream, boosts their moral so greatly that Glenn is awarded a medal for being a hero!

Be a hero in your own home, Pennsyltucky or on the high seas, by cooking up a satisfying mess of goodness. It’ll start your day out right.

In a cast iron frying pan, over low to medium low heat, fry up:
3 medium Potatoes cut into 1/4″ slices
A large Yellow Onion sliced into 1/4″ half rings (see photo above)
2 Tablespoons Butter
salt and pepper

Keep them covered but stir them a few times and after about 15 minutes the potatoes should be tender enough to easily pierce with a fork but not falling apart when you give them a stir.

Top with a blended mixture of:
3 Cups of Morningstar Farms Griller Crumbles*
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 Tablespoon melted butter

Slide the cast iron into the oven for 1/2 hour @ 350°.
Serve hot with Heinz Ketchup and/or hot sauce of your choice!
