On our travels we have stopped a few times at Barley Creek Brewing Company in Tannersville, PA. They have a nice selection of micro-brews and we have always been able to find something on their menu.
The heavy traffic through Delaware Water Gap and Stroudsburg area got to us during Thanksgiving travels so we stopped to rest our eye at this restaurant. We noticed their menu had changed and they had added 2 vegan entrées. Wanting to support that, we each ordered one.
I ordered the vegan Stir Fry. It had fresh broccoli, carrots, zucchini, snow peas, white mushrooms combined with a soy and ginger sauce, then sprinkled with sesame seeds over a bed of risotto. The veggies were indeed fresh but the ginger soy sauce was the kind you get out of a bottle. The risotto was fine and the side salad I chose was pretty fresh.
Jim chose the Stuffed Portobella. It was three smaller portabella mushrooms packed with a breadcrumb and vegetable stuffing baked. The veggies in the stuffing were nice textures and choices and went well with the vegetable medley of the day. I suspected it might be the same mixture of veggies as my entrée but it really wasn’t. It didn’t have smaller mushrooms in the mix and also had some perfectly steamed red bell pepper sections. Jim also got the same side salad.
There are other vegetarian choices like Portobella Stackers and Nachos. I think I remember a vegetarian chili but they seem to have removed that (if they had it at all). I really wanted to mention this place to those of you traveling along I80 and want to keep it on your radar for places with vegan and vegetarian options. Not bad at all and their Sullivan Trail Oatmeal Stout is delightful!
